As of February 2019: While we always appreciate your inquires, we want to share that our lesson programs are currently full and working from a waiting list. If you would like to be added, please scroll to the contact form below and share details about your rider and their needs. We may be slow to reply, but we will get back with you! Thank you for understanding!
On The Rail Farms offers year-round lessons for the beginning through intermediate rider. We pair riders with one of our quality lesson horses, or we can instruct you on your own horse. We have students as young as 5, and if retirement is when you decide to take up riding, we can help make that a reality. Students learn horsemanship basics; including grooming, tacking, and safety. The riding portion of each lesson is focused on creating a balanced rider, with emphasis on how rider position influences the horse. Progressing from walk to trot to canter, riders further concentrate on changing positions in each gate. If interested, riders are also introduced to the basics of dressage and jumping.
Lessons are available in group settings, typically with no more than 3 riders in the one hour lesson. Private lessons are also available. We respect your busy schedule and do our best to accommodate your preferred time and work with you to make up lessons that are cancelled with advanced notification.

Our Intermediate/Advanced Instructor
Erin Sheets joined On The Rail Farms in June 2016. She is passionate about sharing her love for horses with her students. Erin is focused on expanding her Eventing education and rides in clinics regularly with Olympic Gold Medalist Leslie Law, as well as 4* rider Sharon White. She has also ridden with Dorothy Crowell, Ian Stark, Stephen Bradley and Lucinda Green. Erin has developed her last 3 competition horses from off the track race horses to successfully compete in sanctioned shows at the Prelim level. Erin graduated from Franklin College in May 2016 with a Bachelors in Psychology. We know riders will benefit from Erin’s unique perspectives and experiences.
Our Beginner/Advanced Beginner Instructors
Anna Lynn Houk joins the OTRF team in 2019 as the lead instructor for our beginner and advanced beginner program. She brings along years of experience in coaching and instructing both the fundamentals of balanced riding, and the advanced techniques of hunters and jumpers. We are very happy to have her on the team!
Joining Anna Lynn on alternating Saturdays is Emily VanTassel. At 17 years old, Emily is a poised young woman with a decade of riding and competition experience. She also calls the farm home, so we might be a little biased. But we think you will find her instruction a great foundation for advancing riders.
